How to Make a Kiss Kiss

Made famous in La La Land, the Lighthouse Cafe is the scene for our latest Mixed Messages.

For this latest episode, our resident mixologist travels down to Hermosa Beach, California to visit the historic Lighthouse Cafe, a popular local jazz spot made famous by the film La La Land. Their Kiss Kiss is a whiskey-based twist on a traditional Mai Tai, and uses homemade orgeat as its signature touch. You can use whatever whiskey (or bourbon) you prefer but remember to let your orgeat cool before you add it to your drink.

Kiss Kiss

  • 1½ oz. whiskey
  • ½ oz. orange liqueur
  • ½ oz. orgeat (see recipe below)
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • Fresh mint
  • Ground cinnamon
To make the orgeat, combine 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1½ cups of sugar, 5 drops of orange blossom water and 10 drops of almond extract in a saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves. After the mixture has cooled, add the orgeat, whiskey, orange liqueur and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Add crushed ice and shake until the ice has melted. Pour into a rocks glass, then fill with crushed ice. Add a pinch of cinnamon and fresh mint leaves for garnish.
